City Insurance announces the Global Strategy Advisory Board

Bucharest, 29 May 2020

On the 29th of May 2020, the City Insurance Supervisory Board approved the formation of the company’s Global Strategy Advisory Board; a consultative body comprised of three members and tasked to advise the company’s Management on trends, opportunities and threats stemming from the global environment.

The formation of the Global Strategy Advisory Board and the appointment of its members comes at a time of increased global volatility and challenges including the COVID-19 pandemic and its consequences. City Insurance considers this initiative as a critical component of its continuous resilience-building strategy to help drive further growth.

Each of the following individual members brings unique global experience to City Insurance:

Sunil Sabharwal

Sunil brings vast global banking and financial sector expertise as well as partnership capacity with international institutions and governmental organisations, required by leading businesses like City Insurance.

The Honorable Sunil Sabharwal, following confirmation by the US Senate, served as the USA Alternative Executive Director to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) between2016-2018. He was initially nominated by the White House [President Barrack Obama]. A former NCAA All-American and Big Ten Champion in fencing, Sabharwal serves on a commission of the International Olympic Committee, is Secretary General of the International Fair Play Committee and has been elected to the Executive Board of World Athletics. He speaks publicly on investing in Central and Eastern Europe, the confluence of sport, business, financial technology (FinTech), and the role of international financial institutions in a changing economy.

He is an independent business investor and advisor who had set up the Budapest office of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). Sunil has served as the US and more recently was Chairman of Earthport, an LSE-listed entity, until its successful sale to Visa. He is an MSc Management graduate of the London Business School and a BSc Business Administration graduate of the Ohio State University (OSU).

 Kevin Hulbert

Kevin brings unparalleled expertise and insights from a distinguished career in the intelligence community. He is an expert on counter-intelligence, asymmetric threats and cyber-security bringing enhanced capabilities to City Insurance’s resilience building capacity.

His distinguished career has spanned many years around the world across intelligence security, human intelligence, counter-terrorism and risk management. Kevin is a former senior intelligence officer in the CIA’s Directorate of Operations having served multiple overseas tours as CIA Chief of Station and Deputy Chief of Station. After retiring from the CIA in 2014, Kevin’s final job in government service was with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), where he held the position of senior liaison for counter-terrorism.

Kevin is fluent in English and Spanish and holds current TS/SCI (Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information) clearances, with full background investigation and polygraph. Following President Donald Trump’s nomination, he currently serves on the US President’s Intelligence Advisory Board (PIAB).

Federico Trillo

Leveraging his vast governance experience, Federico brings his extensive policy-making expertise to assist on handling emerging regulatory issues in Romania and abroad.

He is a former Spanish politician, who has served as President of the Congress of Deputies, Minister of Defence and Ambassador of Spain to the United Kingdom. Trillo entered into the Navy’s Legal Corps as first of his class in 1974 where he was posted in the naval prosecutor’s office of the Maritime Zone of the Mediterranean, later he was posted in the Directorship of Military Naval Construction. In 1979, he passed the competitive examination for Counsel of the Council of State. He retired from the navy as a Judge-Advocate Mayor in 1989 in order to enter politics.

Federico has also collaborated in the founding of the Association for Studies for Social Progress and he is a member of the Spanish Commission of Military History. He is the author of many books on law and judicial and political thought. He holds a bachelor’s degree in law from the University of Salamanca and a PhD in Law from the Complutense University of Madrid.
